Established in 2004 by Duncan and Elizabeth Chilcott, this independent family firm of Auctioneers & Valuers was founded with an ethos of delivering friendly and professional customer care, with openness and transparency. Since then, the Chilcotts’ team has grown in number but still takes pride in maintaining this approach.
In 2020 the Company was able to purchase The Dolphin Hotel in the centre of Honiton High Street. After eight months of renovation, this historic coaching inn reopened in May 2021 as 'The Dolphin Salerooms', fully equipped to meet the needs of a modern Auction House.
“We put our heart and soul into helping our Customers. Everyone at Chilcotts, whether they are answering enquiries, appraising items, marketing and displaying the auctions, administering payments, carrying, packing or dispatching, feels personally responsible for delivering outstanding results. We believe that our vendors, buyers and valuation clients should receive the same friendly and professional personal attention.”
Chilcotts employs specialists and consultants covering the full spectrum of the Art, Antique and Collectors world, between them, Chilcotts' specialists have over ninety years experience; the Company also benefits from experienced Saleroom and Administration staff. The Company's Press Officer, Sue Cade, ensures that our clients’ items receive full media coverage.
In recognition of Chilcotts’ integrity, knowledge and experience, the Company was admitted to membership of The Society of Fine Art Auctioneers in 2013. SOFAA is the United Kingdom’s foremost professional organisation seeking to encourage the highest standards of probity and ethics within the Fine Art Auctioneers & Valuers industry; Chilcotts is the only firm of auctioneers in East Devon to be members of SOFAA.
Principal Valuer, Duncan Chilcott, gained his expertise during a career which started in 1978 at the top London Auction Houses: Christies, Phillips and Bonhams.
This was before being appointed, at the age of 32, to the role of Managing Director at Bonhams West Country. He has been auctioneering in Honiton since 1991 - the longest established Fine Art Auctioneer in East Devon! Duncan may be familiar to you from his appearances on BBC Radio programmes and The Antiques Roadshow.
Elizabeth Chilcott is responsible for the Company's business development, marketing and day-to-day operations. After her Degree in Fashion Design and Marketing, Elizabeth joined Marks and Spencer's Head Office as a Buyer. She brings an eye for detail and attractive display to Chilcotts, has high standards of customer care, and is keen to de-mystify the Auction process.
