A William III West Country silver lace back Trefid Spoon, by John Murch, Plymouth, with makers mark struck twice, also 'Brita-annia' and one other mark rubbed, the handle with initials 'IW over RW' and dated 1699, see T.Kent 'West Country Silver Spoons and their Makers, p.64 Fig. 84 for example of the marks and pg 113-114 for maker biography, laceback decoration on bowl very worn, bowl  with knocks and distortions, and terminal end distorted, 8in (20.3cm)
Provenance: from The Charles C Brian Collection.  Mr Charles Brian was a born in Plymouth in 1916; he trained as a solicitor and joined his family law practice, C G Brian & Sons. He had a great love of Plymouth and Devon, and amassed a collection of Exeter and Plymouth silver. His particular interest was his collection of early West Country spoons.
