A William III West Country silver lace back Trefid Spoon, by John Murch, Plymouth, makers mark only on stem, see T.Kent 'West Country Silver Spoons and their Makers', page 114 for maker biography and descriptions of marks, the handle with initials and dated 1702, lace decoration worn, 7¼in (18.5cm) long, 0.96ozt. Provenance: from The Charles C Brian Collection.  Mr Charles Brian was a born in Plymouth in 1916; he trained as a solicitor and joined his family law practice, C G Brian & Sons. He had a great love of Plymouth and Devon, and amassed a collection of Exeter and Plymouth silver. His particular interest was his collection of early West Country spoons.
