A William and Mary period West Country silver lace back Trefid Spoon, by John Murch, Plymouth, with makers mark twice and two other marks worn, probably sterling struck in two halves, see T.Kent 'West Country Silver Spoons and their Makers', p. 114, M94, the handle with pricked initials, lace decoration to bowl rubbed, 7¾in (19.6cm) long, 1.3ozt.
Provenance: from The Charles C Brian Collection. Mr Charles Brian was a born in Plymouth in 1916; he trained as a solicitor and joined his family law practice, C G Brian & Sons. He had a great love of Plymouth and Devon, and amassed a collection of Exeter and Plymouth silver. His particular interest was his collection of early West Country spoons.
