Kate Day, Milliner to her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; A Monogram Brooch, the EIIR centre within a plain circular border surmounted by an enamelled crown with diamond points and with a ribboned bow set graduated seed pearls below, unmarked, tests as high carat gold, 2.7cm diameter, within original Collingwood presentation case, together with other related items: a Royal Coat of Arms painted cast metal wall plaque, 31cm x 32cm, and 'By Appointment to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II Milliners' wooden wall-mounted sign, 7cm x 30.5cm, two scrap books of press cuttings from 1950s relating to the Queen wearing Kate Days' hats and Kate Day's career, a photograph of Miss Day and 'Silver and Gold' autobiography by Norman Hartnell, pub. Evans Brothers Ltd., 1955, with hand-written and signed dedication to his friend Kate Day (7)
Provenance: the family of Miss Kate Day. Kate Day made hats for Queen Elizabeth even before her coronation and continued afterwards as the ‘Queen’s Milliner’. She was the only milliner to receive a Royal Warrant in the new Queen’s first year. The brooch was a personal gift to her from Queen Elizabeth.
