Battle of Waterloo interest: a George III painted birch Military Drum, believed originally from the Battle of Waterloo, with painted crown and scroll decoration, cords and skin, the centre with replacement repaired band, 47.5cm high x 42cm diameter. Note: According to tradition, the drum was found on the battlefield after the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. It was donated to the Worcester Regimental museum in Norton Barracks. When the museum moved to smaller venue the drum was returned to the family who originally donated it, and then sold on many years later. Provenance: The Eyres Collection of French Napoleonic Prisoner-of-War Works of Art and Antique Weapons, assembled over many years by a Devon collector. Sold on the instructions of the Executor.
