Auction Sales
Our Auctions are held on Saturdays, commencing at 10:00am*, at The Dolphin Salerooms, High Street, Honiton, Devon, EX14 1HT. We hold thirteen Auctions a year. Live online bidding is available at all of our auctions in addition to viewing and bidding in-person. Following the sale, we offer in-house P&P, if required.

Know the auction dates:
Sign up for auction alerts and/or add the auction dates to your calendar via this website; pick up an auction calendar from the saleroom (we are happy to post one to you if you prefer). We hold thirteen auctions a year, all are held on a Saturday.
View in-person or online:
The auction catalogue with images is uploaded nine days before the auction - on the easyliveAuction.com and the-saleroom.com bidding platforms, as well as our website. View in-person 9:30am-4:00pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before the auction on Saturday; 'Chilcotts After Hours'- late night view with free bubbly and bites on Thursday from 4:30pm-7:00pm, and we open for viewing at at 8:30am on Saturday (sale-day) for viewing before the auction starts.
Bid in-person or online:
We welcome in-person bidders - our auctions have a lively and friendly vibe, and we offer free teas, coffees and printed catalogues! You will need to register for a bidding number or 'paddle' - please bring two forms of ID. Alternatively, leave absentee bids via our website or at the office; live online bidding* and auto-bids* are available by registering with the easyliveAuction.com and the-saleroom.com bidding platforms. Telephone bidding can be arranged for lots over £200 in value.
Paying and collecting:
If you are attending the auction in-person, the invoice is created as soon as the hammer falls and your lots are usually available to collect on the day of the sale. We e-mail out unpaid invoices at the end of sale-day; In-house P&P can be arranged in most cases, this is chargeable, and we can suggest suitable carriers if required. We ask that lots are paid for and collected by the Friday after the auction.
Auction charges and other useful information:
Buyers Premium of 25% of the hammer price is added to all invoices:
This charge is subject to VAT at 20% = a total of 30%, for example, if the hammer price is £100, you pay £130.00.
Internet bidding fees: live online bidding, and ‘auto-bids’, attract additional fees: www.easyliveauction.com — either additional 3% or a £3 flat fee +VAT; www.the-saleroom.com - additional 4.95% +VAT
Note: Additional internet bidding fees do not apply for in-person bidding, emailed, commission/absentee, or telephone bids.
Payment details:
Distance payments can be paid by bank transfer (unlimited amount), or by credit/debit card up to £1,000 - there is no upper limit to in-person chip 'n pin payments; we accept Mastercard and Visa Debit and Credit cards, we do not accept AMEX. We accept cash up to a maximum of £1,500 per transaction.
Our saleroom team will be on-hand to assist before and after the auction:
Moving lots for you to enable closer inspection and giving extra information about the pieces or the auction process; by carrying out condition reports for buyers who cannot inspect in-person.
Retrieving your lots for you during or after the auction; we usually ask buyers to do their own wrapping, but we can help with boxes if required. Helping to carry your lots to, and load in, your vehicle; there is short-stay customer parking and a loading bay at the rear of the building, see directions below.
Clearing:
Purchases must be cleared by the Friday following Saturday's auction; we have portering staff available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm, lunch break 1:00-1:30pm.
Note: limited clearing available on Wednesdays due to our weekly valuation day.
Directions to parking & loading at the rear of the Saleroom:
From Honiton High Street, take Dowell Street (A373) towards M5 Cullompton, after 1/4 mile look out for two yellow clothes bank boxes on right hand side, take next turning on right - Northcote Lane, signposted to Honiton Community College/Swimming Pool and Sports Centre, follow for about 1/3rd mile until you see our large pavement sign pointing right, keep right, then turn into a private carpark by Honiton Carpets. Long stay parking: The Silver Street Carpark, EX14 1QL, and three minute's walk from Lace Walk Carpark, EX14 1LT.
Postage & delivery:
Chilcotts are able to pack and post most items (chargeable at £20 per hour plus VAT, plus packing materials, plus Postage); we can give contact details of several antiques couriers who can help transport bigger or more complicated items around the UK. International P&P, including EU Countries: we are happy to pack items ready for collection but, following the imposition of new regulations and export/import charges, buyers are responsible for arranging collection from the saleroom, transport and export, including paying any duties and charges due. Before bidding, please check the laws in your country. We are happy to work with our clients to help in any way, e.g. posting to a friend or relative in the UK.
Customer comfort:
Free teas and coffees, toilet facilities, lift to the first floor auction gallery; there are excellent cafés and eateries along the High Street!
