Unveiling our new sale room - the Auction Gallery

We recently launched our new Auction Gallery - with a landmark first sale! The space, which is ideal for viewing and selling items, represents a major investment into our business as we continue to strengthen our position for future growth. Following a year of strong trading, which saw turnover rise by around 30 percent, we have significantly expanded the premises; the overall working area has increased by a third and has transformed the customer experience for both our buyers and vendors.

A fascinating collection of clocks and barometers assembled by a man captivated by mechanical workings will be auctioned in Chilcotts November 15 sale. It took three days to remove the entire collection and bring it to Chilcotts, where it was carefully packed away in several of the auction house’s store rooms ready for cataloguing.

A lifetime collection of model trains is to be sold at our November 15 Specialist Collectors Auction. The ‘Railway Works’ was amassed by Nigel Mann, who passed away in 2023. Nigel was well known and respected in the train modelling world both for his personal passion and his willingness to help others pursue theirs.

An unexpected trove of remarkable artwork, discovered in a secluded Somerset bungalow, is set to go under the hammer at Chilcotts Auctioneers in Honiton on July 12. The eclectic collection was quietly and meticulously assembled over decades by distinguished Royal Navy hydrographer and commanding officer, naval hero Captain Richard J Campbell OBE.

Auctions 'green up' at Chilcotts!

We're delighted to announce we have enhanced our green credentials by installing solar panels and EV charging points at the Dolphin Saleroom in Honiton High Street. The installation was completed after the business secured a grant from the East Devon Carbon Action Programme (EDCAP), which partially funded the work carried out by L and M Renewables South West.

The companies, Shapland and Petter and Brannam Pottery were both based in Barnstaple and became highly regarded not just locally but nationally for their creativity and quality.

Sparkling twentieth anniversary year for Chilcotts

Chilcotts Auctioneers’ twentieth year in business has finished on a high with another series of positive sales for vendors and buyers. In particular, the auction team was delighted with the success of two major ‘single vendor’ collections during 2024: the Fishley North Devon pottery collection, and the Alan Winning antique map collection. Both attracted widespread interest and achieved higher sale totals than estimated, partly due to successful marketing campaigns which portrayed the collections in a sensitive light.

Chilcotts is delighted to report that the Fishley Collection of North Devon Pottery fetched twice the estimated auction value at our most recent Ceramics & Glass, Pictures & Works of Art; Good Antiques & 20th Century Design auction. The collection, comprising over 80 items, achieved an impressive £16,655.
